Complete Your IPAF Theory Training Online

Did you know that IPAF launched their updated MEWP Operator Training Course in January 2025?

The theory element of the course was updated in order to align with the practical training, allowing learners to choose category-specific modules. The update also includes the latest animation and graphics that illustrate real-life scenarios and worksites.

The IPAF Operator Training course is designed to equip operators with the essential knowledge and skills to operate MEWPs safely and effectively. Successful candidates will earn themselves the IPAF Powered Access License (PAL) Card, which is valid for five years.

Remote Learning

To provide a flexible learning experience, the theory section of the IPAF MEWP Operator Training Course can be completed via eLearning.

The online modules are available for all MEWP categories (1A, 1B, 3A, 3B) and takes approximately three hours to complete. It has been divided into manageable sections, allowing delegates to complete the theory element at their own pace.

The theory section covers:

  • Introduction to course objectives, facilities, health and fitness requirements, and the ePAL app
  • Overview of legislation requiring operator training
  • Identification and description of MEWP types and components
  • Pre-use inspections, safety checks, and emergency procedures

To complete the e-learning, delegates will need to use a compatible PC or tablet device with appropriate internet access.

The device must have a camera enabled as facial recognition will be used throughout.

Practical Training

The practical training will need to be undertaken within 90 days of successfully completing the theory. On the day of practical training, delegates will be required to bring a copy of their ‘receipt of completion’ for the instructor to verify.

Delegates will then be asked to complete an open book, multiple choice questionnaire which is based on the knowledge gained from the e-learning, this will be followed by a practical training and assessment session.
