Once you’ve received your PASMA card, use the Check a Card tool. Enter your full name and certificate number, click Find Card, then scroll to download a PDF version of your certificate.

To stay certified, you must complete a PASMA refresher course before your current card expires. This includes a written and practical test. After passing, you’ll get a new card and certificate.

Yes – without the correct instruction manual, you must not assemble a mobile tower. PASMA guidance requires that every build follows the manufacturer’s step-by-step instructions exactly, even for trained users.

Yes – under the Work at Height Regulations, anyone working from a mobile tower must be competent and able to prove it. PASMA offers a Work at Height Novice Course for those not assembling or moving towers.

No – PASMA and the HSE advise that if guardrails are correctly installed, personal fall protection such as a safety harness and lanyard is not required. The tower offers collective fall protection.

No – mobile towers must never be used without castors or base plates on all uprights. These components ensure the tower is stable and safe. Using boards or packing instead is dangerous and not compliant with PASMA standards.

To safely increase or decrease the height of a mobile tower, use the correct size end frames designed for the system. Never improvise with non-standard methods.

Assembling a mobile tower on a slope depends on site conditions and risk assessment. Base plates are safer than castors. Additional safety measures such as tying to structures or using ground anchors may be needed.

Rescue plans for mobile towers vary depending on the scenario. Generally, self-rescue is preferred, followed by assisted descent. In serious situations, only trained emergency services should carry out a professional rescue.

Employers must conduct a risk assessment to determine PPE needs. PASMA requires delegates to wear suitable head protection, safety footwear, and gloves when working on or around towers.

Using a mobile tower in a river or watercourse is not recommended due to unpredictable ground and safety risks. A thorough site-specific risk assessment is essential before attempting this.

Check their PASMA Card or Certificate using the PASMA website’s Check a Card tool. The card will list their training level and categories, indicating which tower types they are qualified to assemble.

PASMA cards include a training level: U for User, I for Instructor, and M for Manager. These levels reflect what type of PASMA course the holder completed and what tasks or roles they are qualified for.

The 'category' on a PASMA card shows which training courses the cardholder has completed. Each letter or code refers to a different type of tower or level of training, such as T for Towers for Users or A6 for Towers with Cantilevers.

The current standard is BS EN 1004-1:2020 for mobile towers, replacing EN 1004:2004. BS EN 1004-2:2021 applies to instruction manuals. For custom tower configurations, BS 1139-6:2021 may apply.

Yes – toe boards must be fitted to platforms if there’s a risk of materials falling. This applies even at low platform heights if your risk assessment identifies a hazard.

Yes – if your risk assessment shows a danger of falling, guardrails must be fitted, even at low heights. This is part of PASMA and Work at Height guidance.

Mobile towers should be inspected after assembly, before use, after any event that could affect safety, and at least every 7 days. For towers under 2m, inspect after assembly and based on frequency of use. Use the PASMA Tower Inspection Record for compliance.

3T (Through the Trap) and AGR (Advance Guard Rail) are PASMA-recommended methods for fall protection during mobile tower assembly. Both are supported by PASMA and the HSE.

You must follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the tower you’re assembling. End frame size and position vary by model, so always check the user manual to ensure safe guardrail positioning.
