Mineral Products Association – “Safe Stop”

According to the Mineral Products Association (MPA), there have been several separate 'runaway incidents' this year. This has highlighted the importance of drivers ensuring that they follow 'Safe Stop' procedures to prevent incidents, fatalities and damage to property.

The MPA would like to draw your attention to the HSE "Safe Stop" guidance. Although specifically designed for the agricultural sector, it applies equally to other sectors. It comprises of 4 key actions by drivers when they stop mobile plant vehicles:

  1. Engage handbrake
  2. Controls in neutral
  3. Switch off engine
  4. Remove key

Members of the MPA have reported that these steps are not universally followed. We support the MPA guidance and our instructors encourage all operatives to maintain best practice after completing their training.
