Lack of Training Linked to High Fatalities - Construction Index

In the latest issue of Construction Index (January 2024), a featured article stated that lack of training is linked to high fatalities.

According to the article, the construction industry has the highest fatality rate and is offering less frequent and less comprehensive training than other sectors such as transport and manufacturing.

For contrast, 54% of employees within the construction industry go through training annually, whereas in the utilities sector, 65% of employees complete training every year.

Rob Bright, founder of a training and assessment software company, stated “Our research shows that lives could be saved by providing all those working in high-risk roles with adequate training. The bare minimum is no longer enough when it comes to instilling essential skills in employees. Executives must be held accountable for the safety of their employees, and this means training for safety, not audits”
