New 3B Mobile Boom for In-Person Access Platform Open Courses at Certora

What Makes an Award-Winning Training Centre?

When people book an IPAF training course, they usually focus on the qualification at the end of it.

"Will the course meet the required standard?", "Will I receive my IPAF licence? Is there a date available that works for me?"

They are sensible questions, but they only tell part of the story. The quality of the training environment itself can have a huge impact on the overall experience. The facilities available, the equipment being used, the practical training area and the experience of the instructors all contribute to how much a delegate takes away from the course.

That is why recognition through industry awards matters. Awards are rarely won because of a single course or a single instructor. They are usually the result of consistently delivering a high standard of training, investing in facilities and equipment, and creating an environment where delegates can develop confidence alongside competence.

Earlier this month, the training centre where our IPAF practical training is delivered was recognised on a national stage, being part of the team awarded Training Provider of the Year at the 2026 Safety & Health Excellence Awards.

Training That Reflects the Real World

One of the most important aspects of any IPAF course is the practical element. Learning how to safely operate a MEWP is not something that can be fully understood from a classroom presentation alone. Delegates need time on the equipment, opportunities to develop familiarity with the controls and the chance to experience real operating scenarios in a controlled environment.

That practical experience is often where confidence is built.

As equipment continues to evolve, training centres also need to evolve alongside it. Modern machines bring new features, different control layouts and changing technologies, which means training providers need to ensure delegates are learning on equipment that reflects what they are likely to encounter in the workplace.

A New Addition to Our Access Platform Fleet

We have recently taken delivery of a brand new Sinoboom ML10EJ 3B Mobile Boom Platform, which has now joined the fleet at our Chesterfield training centre. For delegates attending IPAF 3B Mobile Boom training, this means gaining hands-on experience on a modern, well-maintained machine that reflects the types of equipment being used across industry today.

The machine offers an excellent platform for practical exercises, helping both new and experienced operators develop familiarity with boom controls, machine movements and safe operating techniques. Whether somebody is attending their first IPAF course or returning for refresher training, having access to modern equipment helps make that learning experience more relevant and engaging.

Investment in training equipment is ultimately an investment in the delegates who use it. The more closely a training environment mirrors real working conditions, the more value delegates can take back to site when the course is complete.

More Than Just a Qualification

The best training centres do more than help delegates pass an assessment, they create an environment where questions are encouraged, practical experience is prioritised and learning feels relevant to the job that somebody will return to the following day.

That approach has always been important to us. Qualifications are only part of the outcome and ensuring delegates leave with a better understanding of the equipment they use, the risks they may encounter and the responsibilities that come with working safely at height is essential.

When people look back on a course a few months later, it is often the quality of the experience they remember most. The facilities, the equipment and the confidence gained through practical learning all play a role in creating that experience.
