Why the ABA Matters When Choosing a Forklift Training Provider

When it comes to forklift training, one of the most important things to look for is credibility. With so many providers offering the same courses, it can be difficult to know which provider to choose. That’s where the Accrediting Bodies Association for Workplace Transport (ABA) comes in.

Who are the ABA?

Formed in 2012, the Accrediting Bodies Association for Workplace Transport (ABA) aims to reduce workplace transport incidents, injuries and fatalities as well as improve safety, productivity and profitability through training within the industry.

The ABA sets the ‘rules’ for how forklift and workplace transport training should be delivered across the UK. They bring together the main accrediting bodies – like AITT, LANTRA, RTITB, ITSSAR and NPORS to make sure that training is consistent, safe, and in line with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance.

Why should I choose training accredited by an ABA member?

When arranging forklift or workplace transport training for your business, it’s important that you choose a provider carefully. Training isn’t just ticking a compliance box; it’s about investing in safety, compliance and confidence.

If your training provider is accredited through an ABA member, you can be confident that your training meets national standards and will be recognised across the industry.

For training to meet ABA standards:

  • Courses must be delivered by instructors who are registered to an ABA member.
  • Testing must be completed to ABA standards.
  • Courses must be registered with an ABA member accrediting body.

Always check that your chosen training provider will deliver training that complies with L117, the HSE’s Approved Code of Practice.

Benefits of accredited training include:

  • You’ll get peace of mind knowing that courses are delivered by experienced instructors who are registered by an ABA member.
  • External verification means there’s a clear record of what training took place, meaning that if training or certification is investigated, providers can provide a clear audit trail from start to finish.
  • Operators who are trained to ABA standards will be trained in line with the latest industry updates and legislation, meaning that they will be more efficient in their role, reducing the likelihood of accidents and incidents.

Choosing training that’s accredited by an ABA member is about protecting your workforce, your business, and your reputation.
